From Rosewood in Seychelles, to Rosewood in the The Bahamas, to Rosewood in Puerto Rico, the same luxury hotel brand keeps destroying irreplaceable ecosystems. The communities fighting back have already won ground locally. Now we are taking the fight global…to the “sustainable” brand behind it all.

WHAT ARE THEY DOING?
In three island nations, the same pattern repeats: fragile land is acquired, environmental processes are sidestepped, local communities are shut out, and 5* luxury developments are marketed as paradises on top of the wreckage. These places are some of the last of their kind on Earth, and Rosewood is involved in their destruction.
We are calling on Rosewood to walk away, and stand on the right side of history.

friends of aldabra
A luxury hotel, set to be operated by Rosewood, is going up on Assomption Island, 27km from Aldabra Atoll, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with over 400 species found nowhere else in the world. Having promised to pause construction pending a biodiversity assessment, the government quietly allowed the construction of over 30 structures to continue since February without announcing it. The campaign has secured a national Commission of Inquiry, prompted the IUCN to flag the development formally, and pushed the issue into a national election.Seychelles
"Our islands aren't just backdrops for luxury tropical holidays. They are our home and they sustain our way of life. This coalition was born from necessity. We are watching that home change in real time, and if this trend of destructive large-scale development isn't stopped, soon there will be nothing left to fight for — the nature and wilderness that made us who we are will be gone forever."
— Victoria Duthil, Campaign Manager, Friends of Aldabra
defiende a cabo rojo
A $2 billion luxury private city is being proposed in Cabo Rojo, covering roughly 2,000 acres of ecologically valuable land, 40% of which is legally protected from urbanisation. Alongside Brandes Residences and hotels by other firms such as Mandarin Oriental and Aman, Rosewood is part of "Esencia", a settlement that threatens endangered, endemic species, ecosystems protecting human communities from climate change effects, over 100 archaeological sites, and an already precarious water supply local families already depend on. The coalition has brought thousands onto the streets, gathered more than 115,000 signatures, and received public support from hundreds of scientists and public figures—yet the local administrative process keeps moving towards permit approval.Puerto Rico
"We are deeply grateful to be part of this international alliance raising awareness of the assault on our island communities, vital resources, and ecosystems by billionaire interests around the globe. As a colony (or 'territory') of the United States, Puerto Rico rarely gets the international attention it needs for people to come together and protect this beautiful archipelago for generations to come."
— Beatriz Llenín Figueroa, member of the Defiende a Cabo Rojo Coalition
save exuma alliance
A $200 million Rosewood-branded resort proposed for Sampson Cay in the Exumas faces mounting scrutiny. The plans involve dredging fragile coral reef and seagrass areas, constructing an industrial service dock and a massive seawall in an area locals have used for generations, and introducing commercial shipping traffic, which would create serious safety hazards and negative environmental impact. The project would remove 15,677 protected native trees, excavate two wetlands for mega-yacht marinas, produce up to 2.8 tons of garbage and 103,000 gallons of sewage every day, and at full capacity put roughly as many people on the Cay as live on all the islands within 150 miles. Alliance members are challenging the environmental approval in court, and community members, media outlets and outspoken critics have received legal letters from an international law firm retained by the developer. They have continued speaking out anyway. The Bahamas
"I'd like to think that the big draw for a lot of our visitors is the natural beauty of our islands. They want to see these pristine blue waters, the white sandy, beautiful beaches, the lovely sand bars. All these things intrinsically invite people to come here and support local businesses. We're not against development. We just want to make sure everybody who's coming here wants to protect and preserve these places for everybody else to be able to come and enjoy."
— Keiran Miller, member of the Save Exuma Alliance
